New Darjeeling Tea Arrivals and our intentions to do something good this Christmas!

Hi wrote this for my Email Newsletter, but could occupy as a blog post as well, so…

With the advent of First Flush and the end of the Autumn Flush, the 2009 tea season for Darjeeling Tea has ended. Winter is totally a dormant period with no production at all, mainly due to severe cold weather conditions with lack of sunlight and rain which are much needed. The next big season for Darjeeling Tea will start from March 2010. We wait for the new First Flush season now.

We have tremendously increased the volume of teas we used to purchase and we would like to thank all the tea lovers who made it possible. Without you all, it would just be an impossible dream. We try our best to source what Darjeeling produces each season and thanks to all for liking our teas. Once again Thanks ALL for your support and for building your trust in us. One thing we promise you – we won’t let you down on your expectations!

New Arrivals and Discount Straight away:
The new arrivals on our store are the single estate teas from the last tea season of the year namely “Autumn Flush“. We were busy sourcing teas here and there and the good thing about Autumn is, you can get good teas at very affordable prices. Of course some teas are exceptional, like the Arya White Tea, which tend to have a higher price tag – don’t blame us, we bought it expensive!

With the advent of Christmas, just a few weeks away, we thought of giving discounts on our new tea arrivals as well. First Flush and Second Flush teas are already on sale and the discounts on the new Autumn Flush will extend till end of Christmas. Regular pricing of Autumnal teas will prevail after Christmas.

This time we want you to get involved as well. People travel all the way from different countries to Darjeeling to do their desired social work and here is your chance to give something to the needy. No, we are not asking for any money, we will tell how you can get involved. The perfect organization to work with is Hayden Hall, a women’s non profit organization which has been operational from 1969. They focus on poor women’s self-sufficiency programs which in turn focus on solving the problems their children, families and communities face. They make various handicraft products which are all amazing, but since we are tea centric, our focus got diverted towards the beautiful tea cozies that they make. We will not sell their tea cozies but instead send as a free addition to your existing order which should total up to USD 199. Don’t forget USD 199 total comes with Free Fedex or equivalent shipping and yes, this will also include one year of free membership to our Darjeeling Tea Club. Satisfied? How are you helping them – You buy the teas, we send you the tea cozies free. Our buying of tea cozies is indirectly your buying of the tea cozies and a direct support to Hayden Hall. (I visited Hayden Hall some days ago to place the tea cozies order and met Miss Radha, one of the main Hayden Hall social worker. It was a tremendous feeling talking about all things they are doing for the poor women folk. A visit to their 100% Fairtrade shop was just overwhelming. Meeting the actual women folk doing their daily jobs was like getting in touch with poverty trying to make a living – despite all their worries, very jovial women, always happy!)

Closing Note:
This year’s tea season’s been with up and down initially with the starting of First Flush and the hectic sourcing from the low production was difficult, but we thank God and luck that our pursuit for quality teas got fulfilled. We will be striving for the best First Flush teas next year and hope the weather conditions do peak up for the peak quality teas.

Second Flush 2009 Darjeeling Teas Discount offer on now

Just to let you know, if you are not aware, that the period of four months “no discount offer” on our Second Flush Darjeeling Teas from 2009 is finally over. Its been a couple of days that the offer is on, just that my lazy habit of not updating the blog got the best of me. There is about 20-30% discount going on, but some teas are already gone. Anyways, the leaves are changing and after the big Second Flush tea season, Autumn is here. We have already purchased some Autumnal teas and waiting for some to arrive soon. As soon as its visible inside our store, the teas will be updated for purchase on site.

Free Darjeeling Tea on our Darjeeling Tea page on Facebook

If you aren’t aware then we have a Facebook page dedicated to Darjeeling Tea and of course talks about our company Thunderbolt Tea. People who are tea lovers can become a fan of this page where we give out USD 40 worth Darjeeling Tea every month to the winner for free. We choose it through a lucky draw from amongst the fans.

Once the draw is done, a lucky winner emerges and we make it point to contact them as soon as possible, so that we can announce it and send the gift. As far as I have experienced, it is hard to get in contact with the winners, we write to them and they don’t respond at all and we can’t wait for ever. This is exactly what has happened this recent draw. Anyways, to cut out the long wait and give others a equal chance to be the winner, once a draw is done, we will just wait for 48 hours for the response and if it crosses it, we do a re-do of the draw. If it proves to be the same ‘no-response’ issue, we will throw it out to all the fans.

This is how we will do it – if none of the winners respond, we will throw it open on our facebook page. We will do a status update on Facebook to which you just have to respond with a comment, maybe like this “I want to be the winner”. Kindly do one comment only. This way we will get comments from people who really want to taste our Darjeeling Teas and are serious tea lovers. We will give a time frame of about 48 hours. All comments done within 48 hours from the time of status update will be eligible – we will do a lucky draw amongst these comment makers. Hope this justifies all!!

A NOTE ABOUT OUR DARJEELING TEA SHIPPING MODES
There were initially three methods of shipping we followed namely, the Airmail which my friend @TeaBoat calls it the ‘slow boat’, India Speed Post and Expedited Service, but the slow boat seems to be rowing real slow. India Speed Post and Expedited Service are no headaches, but the Airmail seems to take a lot of time getting delivered. Though none have been reported lost, we received some complaints about its late delivery – some are even taking 45 days.

We are getting rid of this mode of shipping ie. Airmail. We will only be using two modes of shipment from now on – 1) India Speed Post and 2) Expedited Service. India Speed Post hasn’t disappointed us and is reaching maximum within 20 days. Expedited Services such as Fedex, UPS etc. are great.

However for this to take affect, we have to do something about the minimum total order you can do to get eligible for free shipping. Initially, the minimum order value for free shipping was USD 49, now its USD 59. Hope you can understand. Both the shipping modes are expensive and we are trying our best to deliver it to you free of cost!

DARJEELING AUTUMN FLUSH 2009:
Yes, the new and the last season, the Autumn Flush is here. Will start buying after September end. I have never bought a lot of autumn Darjeeling Teas, but this year, I am planning to hunt it like I did it during the Second Flush. Lets see how it turns up and what teas I stumble upon.

Darjeeling Tea appreciation and a Fan

I had started my Darjeeling Tea business way back and had been selling teas here and there, but never had a chance to know client reviews, appreciation, complaints etc. and put them public. Today, I chanced upon Facebook and decided to create a page, it was so easy! The only hard part was importing my Darjeeling Tea feed on to FB page. Did a bit of Googling and viola!

Yes, my tea company’s FB page has been set up and it hardly took me 15 minutes to do so.
